HALF A DOZEN SLEEPLESS NIGHTS WITH ENTIRETY CLOTHING - 2000 TREES, 2012.

Originally from South West England, the independent selling brand started as only a set of garms for the local snow team to rep as they partied on the slopes of Les Arcs 2 years ago. Now, as the brand smashes festivals, beach parties and mountain top raves, the small roots that started Entirety Clothing have suddenly blossomed.
Spending 6 days in the mud with the Entirety team at 2000 trees festival, I found out why the brand is avoiding the repetitions of today’s trends, and what makes them different from other independent labels in the UK...

·       So Entirety Clothing – who/why/where/when?

"Entirety started in the best bedroom ever. It was pretty big, double bed, movie posters, projectors, temporary shisha joint, we even had a skate competition in there once.  After releasing the first tee for the snowboard trip that room is where the ideas flowed and concepts began. Oh and I’m Ross Silcocks and that room was in the town of Cheltenham."

·       I swear everybody seems to have a clothing brand these days – what’s your view on the idea?

"I’ve seen so many start and fail, some with great ideas and some horrible ones. If a person sets out to create something that they truly believe will work and have original ideas and concepts then I’ll be fully backing them up and might even buy that shit myself. If someone wants to start a company and put their white logo inside a red rectangular box or release a top with an upside down cross then I’m taking 72 steps back. (that’s my favourite number)
Take inspiration, not ideas."

·       With todays trends riding the wave of religious blasphemy and mixing it with tie dye and neon – why is entirety bringing something different?

"It’s something we just want to stay away from. We’re still going to create graphically rad garments that people want to wear, we’re just not going to do it following any current guidelines or rules.  Those tie dye t-shirts will be sitting in your cuboard ready for you to smash out at a 80’s fancy dress night next year. I guess what I’m trying to say is that Entirety is just… Entirety, and people seem to be loving and respecting that."

·       What tips would you give someone trying to start their own brand?

"Don't let yourself get attached to anything you are not willing to walk out on in 30 seconds flat if you spot the heat around the corner."

·       As future plans include kitting out snow teams, metal bands and DJs – what’s next?

"We want Europe, that’s our next step, Britain’s going well for us and we want to establish ourselves in the big cities. Our marketing strategy has been completely underground since we began. Next year we’re going to support stores that sell independent brands. We’re not paying to advertise in magazines that girls get their boobs out, when someone buys something from Entirety they’re investing in the company so I don’t believe their money should be thrown around like that. I won’t be naive and say it’ll never happen, but certainly won’t within the next few years. We’re taking our own route.  Also I’d like to state that boobs are pretty awesome,  once a chick in Israel had a meeting with a Hezbollah rocket, it blew up and shrapnel hit her in the chest but was survived because 2 years prior she had a boob job. The implant didn’t make it but I hope she framed that shit. But seriously if any reader knows an artist, illustrator,  designer, skate/snow enthusiast, musican or anyone that could bring good things to Entirety we’d love to hear from them. Spread the word!"

As the company frequently works with students all over the UK, Entirety Creatives was established as an online platform for students and artists to display their work alongside the Entirety clothing website, expanding the Entirety family. For the SS campaign this year, EC used illustrator, Jayme Tobin's work for the brand's print design, and festival/events guide.

Adozen Clashing/Matching Rules

Well, two to be specific but here are half a dozen examples to really hammer it in to you. You’ve got to be clashing or matching my friends. Now, don’t panic. I know it’s a daunting look and the runway designers featured have certainly not held back, but the high street are going to make it very simple for you. Topshop for example, bless ‘em, have a whole section dedicated to ‘co-ords’ on their website for you to peruse. So now you can either mix and match and be clashing or easily purchase your matching trouser suit. Oerfect. River Island have also done the same, kind of them! There are plenty of fabulous patterns on the high street for you to mix and match with, my favourite being the exquisite bird patterned skirt from Miss Selfridge and the Hawaian Beach Scene blouse from H&M. Try and keep some of the same colours present when you’re clashing as well as similar pattern themes in order to ensure the look is making the right statement, rather than just clashing away for the sake of it! My Miss Selfridge look includes two kimono styled patterns in similar tones, whilst the H&M look combines hawaiian flower trousers with that gorgeous Hawaiian scene blouse. If you don’t fancy throwing yourself into either of these looks full throttle, try separating up the looks with some block colour or neutral accessories, a clashing ensemble would still look fab, but slightly toned down for day-to-day wear with a neutral blazer to accompany it.

Fashion Film: On The Road

Ever dreamt of embarking on the ultimate summer road trip? If the answer's an inevitable 'yes' then 'On the Road', an adaptation of Jack Kerouac's iconic 50's novel, is a must-watch for you.

'On the Road' charts the hedonistic travels of friends Sal, Dean and his lover, Marylou, amongst others; the book was largely autobiographical, defining the poetry, jazz and drug fuelled Beat Generation.

Starring Kristen Stewart, Sam Riley and the very easy-on-the-eye Garrett Hedlund, the film appears to effectively portray the spirit of the novel's narrative.

Featuring beautiful shots of America's vast landscapes, 'On the Road' is sure to have you yearning for that freewheeling road trip even more.

The film's first screening is on 16th August 2012, in the picturesque surroundings of London's Somerset House.

Channel your inner traveller in anticipation of the film's release; don your baggiest lumberjack shirt and scruffiest backpack for that nonchalant west-coast vibe.

Young Creatives: VEROSCHKA

Adozen Magazine caught up with the North East's next big thing in the world of boutiques and all things unique. We did a quick Q+A with Veronika Marshall, 18, who is in the process of launching her online boutique, VEROSCHKA.

What inspired you to create VEROSCHKA?

"I think I just wanted my own shop. Since I was about six, I knew no matter whether it would be a bakery shop, a toy shop, a barber shop or a clothes shop…I just knew that I really wanted to own one. My sister always had amazing jewellery and clothes…entering her room was like entering Wonderland for me. Every time she'd leave the house, I'd sneak into her room and stick prices on her stuff and pretend to sell them. I just loved everything about it.

The name 'VEROSCHKA' was inspired by my family. They'd always call me 'Veroschka', it was just a cute way of pronouncing my name in Russian. I guess it just stuck to me. I think when you create a brand, you create something that reflects you, something you're very comfortable with and ultimately something you know will make others experience a similar vibe. When I hear 'Veroschka', I think of my family, so it's really comforting.

As a child, I lived in Holland for a year, so I saw a lot of exhibits, museums, shows. The overall atmosphere of the place I lived in was always full of excitement and vibrancy, which reflects some of the designs. Whilst the darker side to my garments consists of my dreams, as most of my dreams seem to be in black and white with unusual patterns and shapes, which I would say is a kick start to the ideas for my designs."

Summarise your overall inspiration.

"Childhood. Traveling. Dreams."

Where would you like VEROSCHKA to be in five years?

"Hopefully, a well established brand. I'd love to own a studio in London and work with my own team."

Describe VEROSCHKA in three words.

"Fierce. Fun. Eclectic."

If VEROSCHKA was a car, a chocolate bar or a model, what types would it be?

"For the car, I'd have to choose a Porsche 911, comfortable and fierce just like the clothes.

The Model would be Andrej Pejic. I just love everything about this model. I adore the androgynous look, which is something I'm currently working on with my designs.

I remember when I was little, my gran used to always buy me this chocolate bar called 'Korovka'. It was actually the best chocolate I have ever eaten. I think Veroschka is just as tasty as Korovka."

The official VEROSCHKA website launches Mid August so watch this space. Meanwhile, check out Veronika's blog at www.veronikamarshall.com.

Half A Dozen Trends Adozen are Loving this Summer

Here is a quick guide to six of the top trends that our team at Adozen Magazine
are enjoying for 2012...

1. Applique and 3D Florals
Chanel’s catwalk inspired high street brands to produce ruffled embellishments
on practically everything! It is a great way of taking the standard spring/summer
floral trend and stepping it up a notch to make a statement with a key piece such a
top or skirt.

2. Peplums
Whether it be in a skirt, dress or blouse – peplums are huge this summer. Figure
flattering on nearly every type of woman, they skim over problem areas on the
body whilst looking effortlessly chic and classy!

3. Automobile Prints
Prada first showcased the print on their catwalks, but now high street brands such
as River Island and even Primark are selling much cheaper alternatives. This trend
hasn’t been seen before and is here to stay for the summer!

4. Pastel Colours
An usual summer trend that emerged a few years ago, pastel/ice cream colours
are perfect for the spring and summer colour palette. Mulberry and Louis Vuitton
showcased it this year, but this trend can be found literally all over the high street!

5. Neons
High lighter pinks, yellows, greens and oranges are popular not only in clothing but
in beauty and nails too! Pairing neon with nude or neutral pieces is a great way to
embrace the trend without shocking too many people in the streets!

6. The Great Gatsby
To celebrate the new ‘The Great Gatsby’ film coming out later this year, many
designers have been embracing the 1920’s and looking towards that era for
inspiration. Think cloche hats, embellished dresses and pearls!
